Encyclopaedia of Scarce & Critical Skills

  • SAGDA fulfils the role of a pioneer in the implementation of NSDS 3. Working with unemployed graduates for the past 14 years, gives us the edge to truly understand the limitations of both higher education and training systems.

  • Skills development is playing a crucial mile stone to redress the defects of the apartheid education policies. At SAGDA we hail the integration of higher and vocational training together through the creation of the Department of Higher Education and Training. We trust that the single reporting and funding structure for FET colleges, universities and sector education and training authorities (SETAs) will handle neglected issues such as articulation, recognition of prior learning and low throughput rate.

  • With 21 SETAs running separate programs and parallel strategies, SAGDA has engaged with the SETA CEOs to produce a single compendium of Sector Skills Plans and Scarce & Critical Skills for all the 21 SETAs.

  • The compendium titled “Encyclopaedia of Scarce Critical Skills South Africa ” shall become an integrated authoritative guide for employers, employees, students and learners alike. SAGDA plans to use the encyclopaedia as a tool for Career Management by career management tutors at schools and colleges across the country.

  • This is a portable compendium which will save costs and  take the skills revolution a step further. Over and above the encyclopaedia,  SAGDA has introduced a Personal Professional Career Journal for learners from Grade 9 to use the journal up to Grade 12. The journal will help learners discover various career disciplines in line with scarce and critical skills.

More will follow shortly on this program.....
